Imithandazo Lyrics English Translation – Kabza De Small and Mthunzi:

“Imithandazo”: A Fusion of Musical Styles and Cultural Expressions

  • Xitsonga Section:
    • “Khomelela mungana wa mino” – Hold on my friend.
    • “Nita vuya mungana wa mino” – I’ll come back my friend.
    • “Unga rili mungana wa mino” – Don’t cry my friend.
    • “Swita lungha mungana wa mino” – It will all be well my friend.
  • IsiZulu Section:
    • “Bambelela mngani wami” – Hold on my friend.
    • “Sophumelela yizwa ngami” – We will succeed, listen to me.
    • “Lento ngeyethu sinikiwe” – This thing is ours, given to us.
    • “Sobuya k’sasa ngamany’ amandla” – We will come back tomorrow with more strength.

The song  contains a deeper spiritual plea which reflects a very common theme in many African musical traditions—calling upon a higher power for success and protection from ancestors:

  • “Oh nkosi, Yizwa imithandazo yabantwana bakho” – Oh Lord, hear the prayers of your children.
  • “Yelhis’ umoya wakho wempumelelo” – Send down your spirit of prosperity.
  • “Nkosi, sikelela” – Lord, bless us.
